Insane Itching.
Mange starts out as an itch. But this is no little mosquito bite itch. This is the kind of itch that is literally crawling underneath your skin. Mites are tiny little creatures whose entire life purpose is to burrow into the skin, to lay eggs, and to die (in the skin), causing an incredible amount of itch in the process. As the mite family grows and grows and grows, the itching gets worse and worse and bigger and bigger. The results is veritable insanity-inducing itch experience.

Most people have arms, hands, and fingers with which to scratch where it itches. Most animals have paws. Those don’t do quite as good of a job. Plus, we don’t have the kind of fur that dogs do. Try that on an itch. It certainly doesn’t make things any more pleasant. Then, what happens when you repeatedly scratch, bite, and tear up a singe location on your skin? Pain sets it.

Intense Pain.
The itch is a direct cause of the mites parasitic invasion, but there is more to the mange experience. Usually, as the itch persists, it results in prolonged scratching. This breaks open the skin and produces painful sores. The raw skin produces open lesions, pulled hair, bald patches, and all that goes along with it. Then, to make matters worse, the sores easily get infected. They begin burning, oozing pus, producing blisters, and extreme tenderness.

Often, the pain is so intense that animals literally lose their mind. Sometimes, the pain sends them into a coma. Some animals refuse to eat or drink. Clearly, mange is a very uncomfortable condition. That’s why it’s important to catch mange early and treat it effectively. It is your job as your pet’s owner to watch your pet for signs of mange, and to carefully provide for your pet’s needs. If you suspect mange, call up your vet and schedule an appointment.
