It’s hard to be patient when your pet is suffering, when you’re nervous, and when the mange doesn’t seem to be getting any better. But that’s just the way mange is. Once you’ve seen the vet, gotten the prescription, and started treatment, you just have to wait for mange to go away. Here are some things you can watch for as your pet recovers.

• Positive sign #1:  Pet stops scratching constantly. As the mange itch subsides, so will the scratching. This means that the treatment is working, the mange is getting better, and your pet is experiencing less discomfort. That’s good news.
• Positive sign #2:  Hair starts to grow back. Mange can really mess up a pet’s hairdo….for a long time! Thankfully, once the mange goes away, the hair comes back.
• Positive sign #3:  Lesions, sores, cuts, and wounds heal. A pet with intense mange will often scratch so much that he or she opens wounds in the skin. This is unsightly and dangerous, since wounds could become infected. With less itch (and less mange), the wounds began to heal.
• Positive sign #4:  Pet perks up. Sickness can take you out for a while. You know what it’s like. That’s what your pet is experiencing. When the mood of your pet improves, this is a good sign that things are on the up and up. Most pets will experience an increase in energy, alertness as their mange begins to heal.
