Moxidectin is one of the most versatile mange treatments out there. Moxidectin is easy to use, relatively inexpensive, and fairly effective. Although moxidectin is primarily a parasite cleanse, it has proven effective in treating many forms of mange. Moxidectin is a popular parasite treatment for farm animals as well.

What is moxidectin used for?
As mentioned above, moxidectin is primarily a parasite-fighting medication. It is intended to prevent heartworm, roundworm, whipworm, and hookworm, all pretty nasty in their own right. The reason why moxidectin is effective on mange is because it contains a chemical cousin of ivermectin. If you know much about ivermectin, you’ll probably know that you shouldn’t use it on herding dog breeds. Ivermectin can adversely affect dogs with the MDR1 gene.

Using Moxidectin
One of the great things about moxidectin is that it’s delightfully easy to apply, at least when compared with some mange treatments. All it takes is a bit of application on the pet’s back or neck (usually one to three spots), and that’s it. Of course, you’ll have to prevent the pet from licking, scratching, or otherwise disturbing the treatment site for at least a half hour (until it dries).

Moxidectin Side Effects
Like many mange and parasite meds, moxidectin does have possible side effects including skin sensitivity, swelling, lethargy, vomiting, depression, and loss of appetite.
